Giroud ready to fight for future
Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has vowed to fight for his place after being linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, writes Rich Jones.
New boss Maurizio Sarri has handed Giroud just four Premier League starts so far this season, and terms have yet to be agreed on a new contract with his current deal set to expire next summer.
Yet Giroud told French TV show TeleFoot his only focus is working his way into Sarri’s plans and securing more game time.
“Would I have to consider a departure to keep my place in the national team? I feel like it is as if we are where we were several months ago when I was being asked the same questions before the World Cup,” he said.
“I am going to fight and for the moment, it is not a question about seeking a departure. I am going to stick in there and do not expect me to give up.”
